You never know where you might find a Spraytec
When one thinks of Spraytec applications, dainty little nasal spray devices and fuel injectors that fit in the palm of your hand come to mind.
Elkhart Brass Manufacturing in Elkhart, Indiana had a completely different application.
Producing nozzles for industrial firefighting applications that deliver 2000 gallons (7570 liters) of water per minute, they occupy the opposite end of the spray spectrum. One nozzle is specifically engineered for mitigating accidental leaks of toxic gasses such as Hydrogen Fluoride. Mitigation requires a dense cloud of finely atomized water droplets that form a wall of water.
Unlike a fuel injector, the included angle of the spray cone is in excess of 120° and can be as much as 100 feet (30 meters) in diameter. Since the spray was so large, the Spraytec was situated nearly perpendicular to the axis of the nozzle, allowing it to take measurements through the wall of water. Plastic wrapping was used to add a layer of security for the Spraytec in such a harsh soaking environment.
