Fast, versatile elemental screening using the Revontium XRF spectrometer with Omnian quantitation software

This application note shows that the compact Revontium® XRF spectrometer can be used with Omnian® software to achieve rapid and straightforward quantitation of a variety of sample types, with default settings yielding reliable results after only 4 min measurement time per sample.

Omnian® is a software package from Malvern Panalytical that enables the reliable quantitation of XRF samples to be achieved when dedicated methods or certified standards do not exist. Developed for the top-of-the-range Epsilon® and Zetium® spectrometers, Omnian is also applicable to Revontium®, Malvern Panalytical’s compact energy-dispersive XRF spectrometer.

Introduction

Omnian® is a software package from Malvern Panalytical that enables reliable quantitation of XRF samples to be achieved when dedicated methods or certified standards do not exist. Developed for the top-of-the-range Epsilon® and Zetium® spectrometers, Omnian is also applicable to Revontium®, Malvern Panalytical’s compact energy-dispersive XRF spectrometer.

As well as the software package that is the foundation of Omnian, initial instrument calibration uses a set of 18 standards. Calibration using these standards can be done in the factory or on-site using Malvern Panalytical’s own copies of these standards, with Omnian subsequently being maintained using a single dedicated monitoring sample. Alternatively, the whole set of Omnian standards can be purchased, and the instrument calibrated on-site by a Malvern Panalytical specialist. During analysis, Omnian’s advanced Fundamental Parameters algorithm automatically deals with the analytical challenges posed by samples of widely different compositions, enabling it to provide accurate results in a remarkably short time-frame.
