Surfactant micelles are used in a wide variety of applications, from personal care products to pharmaceutical formulations. Dynamic light scattering and isothermal titration calorimetry can be used to characterize micelle size and charge, determine the critical micelle concentration, and study the influence of surfactant concentration and dispersant conditions on micelle size. This webinar will discuss the use of dynamic light scattering and isothermal titration calorimetry for characterizing surfactant micelles. Various types amphiphilic (anionic, cationic, zwitterionic, nonionic) molecules go from monomer to monolayer to micelle as the concentration is increased. Data from Triton X-100, Tween 80, Nonidet P40, and various DTAB concentrations are presented.
